Frequently
Asked Questions
Q. I've paid
$35.00 or more for domain name registrations in the past! How
can you offer registration for only $19.00 a year? Is my
registration valid across the World Wide Web?
A. Our prices
are so low because new rules for domain registration no longer
require us to go through InterNIC; therefore, we (and you) no
longer have to pay their higher prices. Rest assured your new
domain name will be valid globally and will point to whatever
primary and secondary nameservers (DNS) you specify.
Q. Can I pay by
check, money order, or a cash delivery?
A. At this time
we are only able to accept payment through the major credit
cards: (Visa, MasterCard, American Express,)
Q. Can I point
my new domain name to a free web space at EarthLink, GeoCities,
Tripod, Angelfire, or the like?
A. You will not
be able to use such web spaces as your host, because those sites
use preset URLs. (A GeoCities URL, for example, will always
begin with www.geocities.com, and an EarthLink URL will always
begin with home.earthlink.net.) We can only point you to web
hosts who are willing to give you the primary and secondary
domain name server (DNS) info for your web space.
Q. I don't want
to put my contact information into the ACSI form, because I'd
like to keep my site anonymous. Is that okay?
A. Current ICANN
standards require that each domain provide contact information,
and we adhere to those standards at well. Therefore, sites
registered with us may not be kept anonymous.
Q. How can I be
sure my domain name has been registered successfully?
A. That's an
easy one! Just go to ACSI's home page, click on domains, and
"Whois" function above and look up the domain name you
chose. Successful registrations should appear within minutes.
You will also be sent an automatic email confirming
registration. (Note: This email is sent whenever registration is
attempted, so receipt of the email does not necessarily mean
your credit card was charged as you requested. It's a good idea
to check ACSI's Whois page to make sure everything went through
exactly as you specified.) Your site information should also
show up on other Whois lookup pages (such as Network Solutions')
within 24-48 hours.
Q. The ACSI's
form keeps rejecting my information. What am I doing wrong?
A. First, make
sure you're entering phone numbers with only dashes between
groups of numbers (for example, U.S. phone numbers should be
entered in the form XXX-XXX-XXXX). Non-U.S. phone numbers should
not be preceded by a plus sign (+). If you are not a U.S.
resident, please enter the word "none" in the state
field as well as the ZIP code field. Credit card numbers should
be entered with no spaces or dashes (e.g., ################).
Also, the form script uses cookies, so check your browser's
security options to make sure they're enabled. This should
satisfy all form requirements and allow your domain name
registration to go through successfully. If all else fails, make
sure your credit card company is accepting charges to your
account.
Q. I've
registered my domain name, but I still see an ACSI's page. What
now?
A. The page
you're seeing is probably the ACSI default "under
construction" page, which indicates that you're working on
the site. Now you will need to find a host for your page. That
host will provide you with primary and secondary DNS (domain
name server) information, and your domain name will have to be
pointed to those servers. We would be happy to make those
changes for you free of charge, but in order to do so we will
need your domain name, the username and password you selected on
the ACSI form, and your new host's primary and secondary
name-servers (DNS). Once you have that information, email it to support@acsiwebhosting.com,
and we can usually have your domain name re-pointed within a
single business day.
We've also
posted a new function called "Account Mgt" on acsiwebhosting.com
that will allow you to make changes to your own domain, any
time, night or day. We hope you'll find this new feature even
faster and more convenient than changes handled via email.
Q. Oops, I
registered the wrong domain name! Could you please switch those
out for me?
A.
Unfortunately, we cannot just simply "switch" your
domain name or its extension. Once the registration is
successfully logged with other network companies through ACSI,
you own that domain for the time period you specified, and you
will have to go back to acsiwebhosting.com to enter the correct
domain name. There is a separate charge for each registration,
as those companies charges us every time. (That's why it's very
important to pay close attention to the "Confirm
Order" page.) On the plus side, many businesses register
numerous extensions or spellings of their domain name, just in
case customers misremember the URL.
Q. I'm very new
to this. I understand that acsiwebhosting.com is my hosting
company, but could I switch in the future?
A. Yes you
can change to another hosting company, you do this by going in
to your control panel and changing the "DNS" records
to point to your new hosting company. You can obtain
"DNS" numbers from you new hosting company by either
calling them or on there web site, but we do not provide that
information.
